Why Consider Inlays & Onlays?

There are times when repairing a tooth when a dental filling is too little and a full blown crown is not warranted. In those situations we may recommend and inlay or onlay procedure.

This procedure is typically used on back teeth showing medium levels of decay and sometimes on teeth that have minor fracturing. Generally onlays are used to cover one or more cusp and Inlays are used as filling between the cusps. The right choice for you will depend on your individual circumstances.

We’ve designed our in-house lab to fully support inlays and onlays, ensuring you of the best materials and careful matching to your natural color.

What are the Benefits of Inlays and Onlays?

Go Natural | Choose natural colored inlays and onlays. People may not even notice you’ve had the procedure.
Temperature Resistant | They are not made from metal, which means they won’t contract or expand if your tooth is heated or cooled, minimizing the chance of discomfort.
More Tooth Remains | Using this procedure, more of your original tooth remains than with a dental crown.
Added Strength | Inlays and onlays strengthen the tooth by as much as 75%.
Long Lasting | Inlays and onlays, depending on the material and your oral care routine, typically last decades.

How the Inlay/Onlay Process Works

Make an Appointment | A full evaluation and diagnosis by our team will determine if inlays or onlays are the best option for you. In some cases X-rays may be necessary.
Procedure | During the procedure, the damaged part of the tooth will be removed. Then we shape remaining tooth to help ensure the inlay or onlay binds properly. Finally a mold will be taken of your tooth for use by our lab when creating your new tooth.
Application | When the inlay or onlay is ready, it is carefully placed into the exact shape. Then we permanently bond it into place. Finally, we polish and you’re on your way.
